The Clorox Green Works brand cleaners have been out for a few months now and in my opinion work just as good as any non-green cleaner I’ve come across. Starting in April though you will start seeing Sierra Club logos on the entire line of Clorox Green Works cleaners. This is the first product that Sierra Club has actually fully endorsed in its 116 year history and I think rightly so. Clorox built its company on nasty chlorine bleach, but in recent years has been doing much more then green washing as many companies have. Through the purchases of Bert’s Bees and Brita, Clorox has come out looking pretty good in the race to turn green.
The Green Works line consists of:
- Green Works Natural All-Purpose Cleaner
- Green Works Natural Glass & Surface Cleaner
- Green Works Natural Toilet Bowl Cleaner
- Green Works Natural Dilutable Cleaner
- Green Works Natural Bathroom Cleaner
Every product is at least 99% natural and made from lemon oil and coconuts. The products are created to be non-allergenic, bio-degradable, have not been tested on animals and are packaged in a recyclable bottle. I’ve used the floor cleaner for a month now and it smells pretty good because they don’t contain any harsh chemicals.
I hope this is a sign of the stigma attached to green products fading. In the past the public has thought that green products coming from environmental companies must not work and green products coming from traditional non environmental friendly companies must not be green. I think Clorox is headed in the right direction with the Green Works line and I hope that with the help of companies like Clorox and Wal-Mart these low cost green products will make there way into many more homes.
